Welcome
Welcome to Whitley Bay Swim School, where little splashes lead to big confidence! We specialise in gentle, fun, and safe swim lessons for babies and toddlers, helping your child build water confidence from the very beginning. As experienced instructors we create a nurturing environment that encourages early learning through songs, games, and bonding time in the water. Whether it’s your child’s first dip or they’re already paddling along, we’re here to make every moment joyful and memorable. Dive in with us — a lifelong love of swimming starts here!
I’m Tina and I am your Swim instructor. I’m accompanied in pool by a lifeguard trained assistant. I am lifeguard trained and (STB) qualified in Baby and pre-school teaching, with three year’s experience teaching Learn to swim stages 1-4 and assisting in pool with babies and toddlers over the same period.
We operate term time only from Woodlawn Schools Hydrotherapy Pool (Woodlawn School, Drumoyne Gardens, Monkseaton, NE25 9DL). The pool is typically 33 degrees – its toasty! Parking is on road, and there are some restrictions around school pick up times.
Thursday 2 – 4pm term time only, the following is a guide only of the different stages your little one will go through, we are totally guided by their own developmental pathway
6 weeks to 6/7 months – parent in pool
7 months to 1.5 yrs – parent in pool
1.5 yrs to 2.5 yrs – parent transitioning out of pool
2.5 yrs + - parents out of pool
These classes are a gentle introduction to the water for parent and baby using the therapeutic properties of the water as a bonding experience that will build mum’s confidence with baby together in the water, and children progress to gain more control of their bodies and enjoy lots of splashing and bubbles. They will then progress to jumping in, kicking up their legs and starting to travel on their own, getting ready to move on the Learn to Swim stage 1 classes.
